Science College
Our Science College Specialism status, awarded in 2005, allows us to enhance and develop the educational opportunities both within our school and also surrounding primary and secondary schools. We have an exciting range of extra-curricular activities for our pupils which help to enthuse, enrich and enhance their experience of science. These include:
- After school clubs in robotics, aeronautics, astronomy and a chemistry club
- Zooloob - a chance for year 7 pupils to touch and hold small animals and find out about their habitats
- Liquid Nitrogen show
- Visits for gifted and talented students to Rolls Royce, Mettis Aerospace, Thinktank, Salters Festival of Chemistry
- Field trip to Bishops Wood
- Year 9 STEM day engineering day
- Visits to University and careers events for students taking science A-levels
- Army personal development day
- Homework club
- Visit to Leicester Space centre to listen to 10th man on the moon
- Visit to Bodies Revealed for A level students
- Science of sports day
As a Science College we successfully run an inspiring young scientists program for Key Stage 2 students at local primary schools. This has helped to increase student self-confidence as well as to raise the status and enjoyment of Science for younger students. In addition, we run professional development courses for science teachers across the region.
